On our way to Dallas Kendall and I did a little more sight seeing. We stopped by the Shaker museum in South Union. The Shaker's were a religious group that developed during the 19th century. This was one of the 24 villages that was founded in 1807. This is one of the 75 buildings that were built in this village. Only nine buildings remain.

I was fascinated with the looms that they had. They are all hand made.
This gentleman is spining thread. The thread he is spinning is from a cousin to the lama.
In the Shaker community there is a sisters side and a brothers side in every house. They do not have family quarters. If a family joined the church the children were a part of the community and were considered a part of the community. This picture is a room where the sisters would have stayed. As you can see they were very simple people.
This is a brothers room. In each room there was only one rocking chair allowed unless their is an elder brother or sister in the room and then they may have two. The Shaker religion was named for the way they worship. One observer called them the Shaker's because of the way they congregated in a circle and danced.
